Children, Family, and Friday: Jury Awards Korryn Gaines' Family $38 Million In Civil Case Against Baltimore County @balleralert MOR t ASSO Jury Awards Korryn Gaines' Family $38 Million In Civil Case Against Baltimore County - Blogged by: @RaquelHarrisTV ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A jury ruled on Friday the family of Korryn Gaines, the 23-year-old Baltimore mother who was fatally shot by a police officer in 2016, will receive $38 million. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Two years ago, Gaines became a victim of police brutality when officers entered her home on the morning of Aug. 1, 2016 attempting to arrest her on disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and multiple traffic violation charges. The mother originally refused to open the door, but police got a key from the landlord and walked in. They came in to find Gaines on the floor holding a shot gun along with her then 5-year-old son, Kodi. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The incident became a six-hour standoff between Gaines and police. Gaines who aimed her gun at officer Royce Ruby gave him the right to justly shooting the young mother. Ruby ended up killing Gaines and injuring her son. This Friday, an all female jury of six made a ruling after just three hours. They decided Kodi would be awarded $32.8 million, Gaines’ daughter, Karsyn Courtney, would be awarded $4.5 million, and her father and mother will each receive $300,000. The family was then awarded an additional $300,000. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After the three-week trial, the jury had came down to these deliberations: the first shot the officer had fired was not reasonable; they then distributed damages on the grounds that Baltimore County had violated the Gaines’ civil rights and had committed battery on the mother and son. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “This win is for all of my sisters in the movement who have lost their children to police violence,” Gaines’ mother, Rhanda Dormeus.

Cars, Church, and Clothes: Drake Sends Haitian Mother From Miami On A $10,000 Shopping Spree @balleralert Drake Sends Haitian Mother From Miami On A $10,000 Shopping Spree-blogged by @worldwidekeege ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Drake went to Miami and blew a bag, but not on jewelry, clothes and expensive cars as most would think. It was all in charitable efforts, in fact. We all saw his school jersey uniform and scholarship blessing to the Miami school. Then topping it off with paying the tabs for an entire grocery store full of customers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now the Miami Herald reports that the 6 god showered a Haitian maid from Miami, Adelie Paret, with a $10,000 Shopping Spree. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Miami Herald recently told the story of the mother of 5, who takes 2 buses to work at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, and must clean 14 rooms per shift to provide for her loved ones. Drake read her story and was inspired alongside Pittsburgh Steelers player, Antonio Brown, to adorn her like the Queen she was. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A woman called and told her that someone had made arrangements for her to get a massage, followed by an elegant dinner with a limo ride. She was unaware who had done so but decided to go along with the day of pampering. The finale of it all was a Saks & 5th Ave shopping spree. Drake and Brown met Paret there in an empty store that had been closed for just herself, and 2 other women to have the shopping experience of a lifetime. They had 45 minutes in the store with no spending limit. Imagine the possibilities. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ She got an $800 pair of flats for church, a $2,000 Valentino purse, a $6,000 18-karat gold necklace with diamonds, and a couple of perfumes for the road. Although speechless at the beginning of the shopping spree, the Miami Herald noted that she thanked Drake so much. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Look at Drake spreading joy all over the world. Swipe left to see Drake’s reaction to it all.

Dad, Memes, and Ups: Arkansas Man Who Walks 11 Miles To Work Every Day Surprised With New Car From Co-Workers @balleralert Arkansas Man Who Walks 11 Miles To Work Every Day Surprised With New Car From Co-Workers - Blogged by: @RaquelHarrisTV ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ An Arkansas man walked 11 miles for seven months straight just to get to work at 4 a.m. every morning, until his co-workers decided he’d walked long enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trenton Lewis is a 21-year-old single dad, who takes care of his 14-month-old baby girl in Little Rock, Arkansas. Lewis started working for a UPS facility, knowing he wouldn’t have transportation to and from work. However, he said he was “banking on his feet.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Lewis never made mention of his lack of transportation to his co-workers, but Patricia “Mama Pat” Bryant took notice. “She was like a second mom,” Lewis said. “She actually got upset with me when she found out I was walking to work,” said Lewis. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bryant rallied the other co-workers together, told them about Lewis’ situation and started planning to get Lewis a car. “Everybody that I talked to said yes! The hardest part was reminding them to bring cash,” Bryant’s husband, Kenneth Bryant, said. “I told the seller what I was doing and who it was for and he said he was willing to work with me on a price.” When the time came, the workers had raised $2,000. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last week, the crew led Lewis out into the parking lot for a “union meeting” and surprised him with his new 2006 Saturn Ion. Lewis graciously thanked his team and spent his first ride going to pick up his daughter for dinner. “God always has something for you,” said Lewis. “I’m never going to forget this ever,” said Lewis.
