Hey wait but sit down This is Megumi Igarashi She’s a Japanese artist Japan, the country with some of the most fucked up pornography and the penis festival Where the vagina is basically illegal to talk about  So she did a bunch of art featuring 3D sculptures of her vagina, including this kayak, and was put in jail for it She was indicted again in December on obscenity charges for selling vagina art to crowdfund for the kayak and could spend two years in prison In Japan, women’s vaginas are treated as though they are men’s property. The trains here usually display pornographic advertisements. As a woman, I find that blatant objectification to be humiliating. I’m disgusted by it. My body belongs to me.So, with this project I wanted to release the vagina from the standard Japanese paradigm. Japan is lenient towards expressions of male sexuality and arousal, but not so for women. When a woman uses her body in artistic expression, her work gets ignored, and people treat her as if she’s some sex-crazed idiot. It all comes back to misogyny. And the vagina is at the heart of it.The vagina is ridiculed. It’s lusted after. Men don’t see women as equals—to them, women are just vaginas. Then they call my vagina-themed work “obscene,” and judge me according to laws written by and for men. [x] She plans to turn her trial in to a manga comic. She seems pretty sure she’s not going to do any jail time but if you’d like to help her pay for her inevitable fine and court fees, you can check out her online store. There are little glow in the dark vagina characters. Wow I’ve seen this reblogged a ton of times without seeing the whole going to jail part. Here’s a recent article about her from July of 2017.  It looks like she did some brief time in jail, and is currently still working on this artistic effort, as well as trying to raise awareness about a new terrorism law and the jail/prison system in Japan.  Reblogging again for the updates! I went from “wow why” to “YES GIRL” in 2 min. Viva la vulva

Why

She had a dream and she realized it.

This is Megumi Igarashi

She’s a Japanese artist
Japan, the country with some of the most fucked up pornography and the penis festival
Where the vagina is basically illegal to talk about
So she did a bunch of art featuring 3D sculptures of her vagina, including this kayak, and was put in jail for it
She was indicted again in December on obscenity charges for selling vagina art to crowdfund for the kayak and could spend two years in prison

He got her pregnant during the filming of The Gold Rush when she was 15. He fired her from the set and tried forcing her to have an abortion. Years after covering that disgusting situation up, at the age of 54 he married Oona O’Neil, who had just turned 18.  It’s absolutely disgusting how these men use their money, fame, and influence to silence their victims. & we can only guess at the number of young girls we will never know about who have been targeted by these demons.   This whole “seperate the art from the artist” bs has kept such criminals protected from the scrutiny of law. We need to accept that art cannot cover up crimes and that in want of better art, we cannot let criminals do better crimes. and people brush this off and pretend it’s not reality all the time. people are fucking spineless. it’s pathetic but even more than that, it’s disgusting. stop letting pedophiles be “normal”, stop letting pedophiles be “great.” children’s safety matters. Every ‘brilliant’ pedophile who is punished and removed from society allows someone else more worthy to take his place. It also gives his victims a chance to do great things instead. We would have more brilliant artists and creators not fewer if the pedophiles weren’t allowed to flourish. They’d be a different demographic - one that men can’t use to give tacit approval to their own misdeeds. Unpopular opinion but the life and dignity of children is more important than your favorite movie or singer or whatever. Sure, the idea that getting rid of a pedophile “allows someone else more worthy to take his place” is really reassuring to the masses, but that should not be your priority. You shouldn’t have to gain something from putting a child molester behind bars to put a child molester behind bars. The very idea that we are making society a safer, better place for our kids and modeling correct behavior should be enough. It needs to be enough, or else men like this will never be brought to justice.

Not the daughter of some space aristocracy or legacy lineage, but a hero of her own making. […] That Rey’s parents were ordinary people meant anyone from anywhere could be born a hero; what determined a person’s place in the world was who they chose to be, rather than their last name. “Rey is our protagonist. And the truth is, in the story, the toughest possible thing for her to hear is, you know, you’re not gonna get the easy answer that you’re so-and-so’s daughter, this is your place,” [Rian] Johnson told me after The Last Jedi’s release. “You’re gonna have to stand on your own two feet and define yourself in this world.” Instead of taking the baton from Last Jedi and running with it to new heights, The Rise of Skywalker retreats right back into the safety of nostalgia. […] It’s as if Abrams and Terrio scrambled for a loophole specifically to mollify the “fans” upset that this hero—worse, this girl—dared to wield such incredible abilities with only her own strength […] Bookending the saga Anakin began with the story of a girl from nowhere who sets right what he helped unbalance might have been resonant. But who cares for that when there’s another billion-dollar franchise to set up and potential spin-offs to tease? — Melissa Leon, ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ Erases the Power of Rey’s Story and Surrenders to Sexist Trolls
